About the Project

What do we plan to do?

Three schools and three universities in three countries (Austria, France, Germany), as well as the University of Pristina (Kosovo) as an associated partner, are jointly developing a transnational, multilingual and intercultural school development concept for grades 3-6 (from childhood to adolescence). We regard Europe’s cultural and linguistic diversity as a constitutive feature of our continent, which we see as an opportunity and resource for schools, in particular. Due to the steady migration to our countries, many different languages are present in our classrooms. It is crucial to open this “treasure trove” and to make efficient use of it.
Our aim is to systematically use and optimize transferable language acquisition skills and to develop targeted teaching and learning strategies within the framework of modern multilingual didactics. Therefore, the project builds on an existing and evolving multilingual curriculum and multilingual competence model.
With the help of targeted questionnaires for pupils, parents, teachers and school administrators, we can assess the present circumstances and point out potential areas for improvement.

Throughout the process, we emphasize a close relationship with parents. We want to overcome language barriers and promote an open, constructive and participative cooperation between families and schools. Our teaching concepts will be tested in bilingual and regular classes. Subsequently, our findings will be incorporated into the teacher training. Our interactive methods are going to be tested in multicultural and flexible classrooms (Linguistic Schoolscaping). We are also going to engage multilingual artist; students will make short films on the topic. During the project our team will participate in various trainings to gain as much in-depth knowledge as possible.
